Hannibal was the Carthaginian army general from 247-183 BC. He launched the second Punic War against Rome in 218 BC. For 15 years, Hannibal won victory after victory against Rome. Large parts of Italy defected to Hannibal, be he could not capture Rome itself. in 202 BC roman general Scipio fought Hannibal on the plains of Zama in Carthage. Rome won and made Carthage give up their territory in Spain and Africa. They also made them pay huge payments for fifty years.
